L’Aristocrate 2023 is Alex Stauffer’s "left bank" Pinot Noir: a red that prefers subtlety to volume. The grapes come from the slopes of Chalais (Perec), a cooler, earthier area, where Pinot naturally develops that touch of Burgundy: delicate fruit, discreet spices, and a freshness that holds its line.
On the nose, it opens with crisp cherry, raspberry, sometimes a hint of redcurrant, followed by drier, more elegant notes: mild pepper, mountain herbs, withered flower, a stony breath. On the palate, it is refined and juicy, with velvety tannins, a body without heaviness, and a fresh, clean, almost salivating finish for a red wine. The aging (15 months in barrel) adds structure and complexity, without masking the fruit.
This Pinot is made for the table, not for show: roasted poultry, veal, mushrooms, winter vegetable dishes, or a characterful aged cheese. L’Aristocrate 2023: noble, yes… but the kind to take off its jacket after the first glass and be on first-name terms with everyone.
