Sven Fröhlich Weine

Malans, Grisons – Switzerland

Elegance born from an atypical path

Born in Berlin in 1967 and a former telecommunications fitter, Sven Fröhlich discovered his calling late in life: wine. It was in 2007, during an internship with Thomas Studach in Malans, that he had his epiphany. He then trained with the biggest names in the Herrschaft — Gantenbein, Hermann, Schloss Salenegg, Schlegel — and honed his demanding standards through meticulous, uncompromising work.

In 2015, he made his first wines from a parcel entrusted to him in Jenins, named "Hummel" (bumblebee), in homage to the first creature observed among the vines. It has adorned all his labels ever since. Today, he cultivates 1.4 hectares under lease in Fläsch, and makes his wines in his mentor's former cellar in Malans.

Grape varieties & style

Riesling-Sylvaner & Pinot Noir

→ Deep, chiseled, and balanced wines. The Pinot: fine, structured, harmonious like a grand orchestra. The Riesling-Sylvaner: taut, mineral, with hints of citrus and flowers.

Sven's philosophy

“My Pinot must be like a grand orchestra: you must feel everything, but nothing should dominate. That's how a wine acquires a soul.”
