Elia Liberto

Chur, Grisons – Switzerland

The energy of the heart, the instinct of wine

Elia Liberto was not born a winemaker. Yet, nothing seems more fitting than to see him today creating his own wines in the heart of Grisons. A native of Chur, he converted late to winemaking with a contagious passion, learned the trade at Wegelin in Malans, and started without a cellar, without land, without inheritance — but with overflowing energy, rare sincerity, and good karma strapped to his shoulder.

He cultivates his vines in Zizers, on the Mutschacker plot. Here, everything is done by hand, gently, with an almost intuitive care. Organic protection only, maximum biodiversity, harvesting in the cool of the day. In the cellar, it's the same story: indigenous yeasts, no additives, no filtration. Living, sincere, unpredictable wines. And terribly endearing.

Grape varieties & style

Pinot Noir, Riesling- Sylvaner

→ Frank wines, without artifice, very drinkable. The fruit is free, the gesture authentic, the whole vibrant. The expression of a free winemaker, totally connected to his terroir.

His philosophy

"I wasn't born in the vineyards, but I found my place there. I move by instinct. I want true wines, rooted here, and breathing life."
