The Simonet Family

Vully, Fribourg – Switzerland

Two centuries of history, the same high standards

At Petit Château, viticulture has been a family affair for over two hundred years. The adventure could have ended in the 1970s, but Éric Simonet, freshly graduated in oenology, chose to return to the shores of Lake Morat to take over the estate. His first vintage, 1975, was an immediate success and opened the way to a new era: diversification of grape varieties, bold introduction of barrels, and a constant quest for precision.

His sons, Fabrice and Stéphane, later joined the estate, bringing with them experiences from Switzerland and abroad. Their arrival marked a turning point: biodynamics, discovered by Fabrice at Josmeyer in Alsace, gradually became the backbone of the estate, leading to Demeter certification. With the support of Jean-Michel Comme (Château Pontet-Canet in Pauillac), they further refined their understanding of the soils and installed a "haute couture" winery, designed to vinify each plot with meticulousness and sincerity.
